About Contemporary Art
Depending on who you ask, contemporary art can be defined a number of ways. While some suggest it is a result – and a rejection – of modern art, most agree that art created after World War II falls under the contemporary classification. The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art is therefore a contemporary art museum, as we continue to focus primarily on art that has been created since our inception 60+ years ago (with an emphasis on living California – and Central Coast – artists.)
