November 2009 - The San Luis Obispo Art Center is now the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art. With the intent to rename the Art Center in a way that most accurately reflects the mission, programs and offerings of the organization, over 125 new name ideas were submitted by Art Center members and the general public. The three most popular suggestions were put to a vote, and over 70% preferred the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art.
We were founded over a half-century ago as a community art association, which evolved into the San Luis Obispo Art Center. Our success is credited to the collective vision and talent of our early members as well as thousands of members and supporters. With our new name, we look forward to continuing to share art with the community.
