Light From A Dark Room

Exhibits // Light From A Dark Room

Dec 14 - Jan 27

Overview // Light From A Dark Room contains black-and-white silver gelatin photographs made using film as well as digital color photography. This exhibition reflects the evolution of Marta Peluso’s art over time and includes new as well as older images that have been revisited, often reprinted and at times combined with other imagery. Specific pieces and various media were chosen to work together as an installation, such as the ten Jack Kerouac Alley images in this show were shot between 2009 and 2016.

Marta Peluso’s interest lies primarily in straight, black-and-white imagery with an emphasis on environmental portraiture and social landscape. Like photographers Garry Winogrand and Diane Arbus, she believes there is nothing as mysterious as a fact clearly seen.

Peluso taught photography at Cal Poly and Cuesta and was the Cuesta College Art Gallery Director for 16 years. She also served as Executive Director of ARTS Obispo for 5 years.
