Overview // This 4-day class will focus on creating studio paintings from reference material with the goal of capturing a sense of place in natural light. Students will work on location making color studies and take these studies indoors to use as reference material. In the studio, artists will create larger paintings from the studies and reference photos. Design, color, palette organization, and direct and indirect painting will be explained and put into practical application.

Weather permitting, we will visit Libby Tolley's studio.

Transportation and an outdoor easel are required. Materials list will be sent to confirmed students.

Day 1-Thursday
Morning: Meet in SLOMA classroom
Afternoon: possibly out on location, weather permitting

Day 2- Friday
Morning: Meet on location, weather permitting
Afternoon: In SLOMA classroom

Day 3 - Saturday
Work in SLOMA classroom all day
Visit Tolley Studio after class

Day 4 – Sunday
Work in SLOMA classroom all day

About Libby Tolley -
Elizabeth "Libby" Tolley is a well-known professional artist, a popular workshop instructor, and author of “Oil Painter’s Solution Book: Landscapes—Over 100 Answers to your oil painting questions,” published by North Light Books. Her articles have appeared in over 30 Art Magazines and Books.

Ms Tolley is an Elected Artist Member of the California Art Club, Signature Member of Oil Painters of America (O.P.A.), Signature Member of National Watercolor Society (N.W.S.), Signature Member of Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA), and co-founder of San Luis Outdoor Painters for the Environment, (S.L.O.P.E.).
