Exhibits // Brushstrokes 2015

Mar 20 - May 17

Overview //

In conjunction with The Painters Group, the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art presents Brushstrokes, its biennial juried painting exhibition. This year’s exhibition, billed as “Best of the West,” was open to artists in California, Oregon and Washington. The paintings will be on view from March 20 through May 17, 2015.

This year’s exhibition juror, Harold Spencer, had the task of selecting 50 paintings from 214 works of art submitted. Mr. Spencer, in addition to being a painter, is professor emeritus of art history at the University of Connecticut’s School of Fine Arts and author and editor of several publications on the history of art. He earned BA and MA degrees in art from the University of California at Berkeley and a PhD in art history from Harvard University. Returning to live in California in 2002, he continues to exhibit his work regularly and holds a studio space at Studios on the Park in Paso Robles. The natural world is the primary source for Mr. Spencer’s works in oil, encaustic, watercolor, and monotype.
