Earth Fire Water

Exhibits // Earth Fire Water

Aug 3 - Sep 30

Overview // The Central Coast Craftmakers selected the theme for their 2018 McMeen Gallery exhibition this summer with the timely focus on the effects of catastrophic fires, floods, and droughts not just locally, but worldwide. 18 members of this artist group accepted the challenge and submitted jpeg images of their entries for consideration by this year’s juror, Bob Nichols.

After deliberations, 26 artworks will be onview, ranging from delicate baskets made from leaves or yarn, ceramics, steel, paper, fabrics of all types, fused glass, copper, and even woven zippers.

Bob Nichols has been creating art since he stumbled into the pottery studio at Cal Poly as an undergraduate in architecture. More recently, he has been teaching in the Fine Arts Department at Allan Hancock College full-time from 1986 until his retirement in June 2017, and now he continues to make art that is strongly connected to the Central Coast.

Details // Meet the artists selected for Earth Fire Water at their opening reception on Friday, August 3, 6–9 PM, in conjunction with Art After Dark. Awards will be presented at 7 PM.
