A New Home for SLOMA

// Located on the west end of the Mission Plaza, the new home for the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art moves our Museum to new levels of excellence by increasing its ability to exhibit more of the visual arts, teach more children and adults, and further enrich the regions cultural life with expanded offerings.

Help Make the New Museum a Reality

OUR GOAL: $12 MILLION FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW BUILDING PLUS $3 MILLION AS A CASH RESERVE FOR OPERATIONS

In two short years, SLOMA will begin its transition from an outdated facility into a brand new space—one that will redefine SLOMA’s role and re-imagine its relationship to the region. The new space will offer a more open, accessible, and engaging experience for all.

The Time is NOW

The time has come to build the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art’s new home. The present facility is inadequate for the Museum’s growing collection and its visitors, who are increasing both in numbers and sophistication. The existing structure lacks the space and functionality for which art museums are being used today.

Benefits of the New Museum

Once completed, the new structure will be an energy efficient and environmentally sensitive building, and feature:

  • Triple the exhibition space for viewing artwork
  • Triple the number of classrooms for art education
  • State-of-the-art lighting, climate control and security systems
  • A dedicated space for exhibiting our permanent collection
  • Elevator for public access and art handling
  • Workshops for curatorial needs
  • Museum store
  • Catering kitchen and tea room for the community at large
